At CLC Charter School located in Centre County, a small group of 8th graders helped by a couple teachers will soon be operating a merchandise store. The location and time of the merch store are still undecided, but will most likely be decided sometime this week. The merchandise store was created to fund the 8th grade trip which, if successful, will fund a 2-day trip to Cedar Point and Kalahari. Merchandise for the store was selected by sending out a survey to student's and staff members asking what they would buy from the merchandise store. The CLC merchandise store will be run by six 8th graders. The students include Annabelle, Ben, Ellie K., Jack, Kiera, and Sam. They have discussed and sent out a survey which will evaluate what students want from the merchandise store and any additional ideas or merchandise students want to add. This will greatly improve the merchandise store as the group can see what people want and figure out what products to include. We asked Kelly, a staff member at CLC, if he had any concerns for the merchandise store. He said that there were not any current concerns he had with the store. Then we asked students Ben, Jack, Kendall, Kinzley, Neely, Sam, Shannon and Viviana how much money they hoped to raise from the merchandise store? Shannon and Sam both responded with $1000. Kinzley and Neely the lowest answers with $600 and $300. Kendall gave an estimation of $500 - $1000. Ben said any amount saying that “Any amount will help.” Finally, Jack had the highest estimation with around $1500. We asked Brian Rowan, another staff member at CLC, how the store would be run? He explained that there would be a pre-order form through which people would buy merchandise. Once the pre-order form is received, the staff of the merchandise store will buy the merchandise needed to meet the needs of the customers. The orders will then be delivered to the students. As of now there will not be a physical location for the store. In conclusion, the merchandise store will be an exciting new feature to CLC as the 8th graders continue to fundraise for the 8th grade trip. This will hopefully make enough funds to meet expectations which will allow the 8th graders to go on the exciting two-day trip. |
